Day 2 - September 4th, 2010 Newport, TN- Chesterfield, MO

Gnocchi keeps watch of the road on the dash for a spell

It is slow going through Kentucky’s rolling hills pulling the trailer and maxing out at 35-40mph on the uphills and 70mph on the downhills. Today the cats discover that they can go underneath the seats in the cab and they use this safe house to hole-up in most of the afternoon, sleeping as if they were home. We are glad that they are getting more comfortable.

Orzo licks his chops as Gnocchi stands unimpressed by the road kill

Heather looks into the sunrise as we saddle up for the day

As we enter St. Louis we enjoy the many views of the arch, crossing the many bridges that span the Mississippi. Heather plays camera-man as I direct the exact moment to snap pictures of the arch. We avoid the backlight angle and wait patiently for the money shots that can be had at 55mph, pulling a trailer with two squirmy cats crawling all over you.

Gnocchi provides ample distraction before she holes down into her kennel for the balance of the day

When we finally make it to the hotel we set up the cats in their suite and run off to the Groom’s dinner. After parking a couple doors down in a pet hotel/veterinarian’s office - how ironic it was to have 20 pair of cat eyes watching our U-haul - we ran across the lawn of a storage facility, chasing a rabbit as we skip like little kids to the restaurant. We enjoy a wonderful evening of culinary delights and good company with Carina, Bryan and their families.
