The sun hangs low over the smug-sized skyline of the Queen City, the perfect canvas for the rich warm colors of sunset to bleed to the edges of the western sky- a giant beacon calling us to head for the mountains, for the first leg of our journey to Anchorage.

Orzo stands at full height looking for prey in the ditch and Gnocchi finds something of interest out the side window
The seventeen foot U-haul with mom’s attic groans under the weight of all our belongings, including a trailer with “Cassandra”, our white Honda Civic Hybrid, and of course our two kitties, Orzo and Gnocchi. Gnocchi meows balefully, as Orzo punctuates her howls with staccato high pitch counterpoint meows. They keep time for the first little bit of the journey through the city and then begin to get used to the new vehicle. Gnocchi explores the floor beneath Heather’s feet pausing to sniff the litter box that is in her way. Orzo, curious to a fault, tiptoes across the dash from my seat to Heather’s, pausing right in the line of sight that Heather needed to keep this boat on track! She adjusts by straining to see around him and follow the curvy mountain highways at speed. It was one of these curves that causes our “nimble” cat, Orzo to slip as if he was a cartoon character on a banana peel and he lands with claws dug deep into Heather’s leg! Things cool down and the cats get used to their temporary home on wheels.
Gnocchi rests her head on the U-haul steering wheel

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the picture of orzo sitting straight up looking out the window! safe travels and thanks for the update
ReplyDeleteAt a quick glance,it looked like Orzo had his paw on the steering wheel.. then i realized it was Heather's arm... keep those cats away from the gas/brake pedals!! love you both!!!
